THE HISTORY OF JAZZ CRUISES
A WONDERFUL TUNE
PRESENTED IN 8 SETS

To celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month in April 2021, Jazz Cruises created a special 8-chapter series telling the storied history of our jazz programs. The chapters were delivered to cruise guests and fans in twice weekly special editions of our Weekender e-newsletter.

The story begins nearly 50 years ago, when Norwegian Cruise Line (“NCL”) sponsored an annual jazz cruise on the SS Norway. This program was a “group” cruise, meaning that the jazz program shared the ship with other passengers. Though this form of jazz cruise had its limitations, it was very successful for more than a decade and provided the foundation for the growth of The Jazz Cruise and, eventually, Jazz Cruises, LLC.

The Jazz Cruise, which celebrated its 20th anniversary as a full-ship charter cruise in 2020, has sold out every year and now boasts an extraordinarily loyal and passionate international guest list. The secret to its success is simple, great musicians, great production and always making sure that the guest experience is top-notch.

The Jazz Cruise has formed the basis for nearly 80 full-ship charters, all stemming from the original format of The Jazz Cruise. Today, The Jazz Cruise is joined by The Smooth Jazz Cruise and Blue Note at Sea as the jazz programs of Jazz Cruises, LLC.
